What to Expect Your First Sunday at The Bridge Church in Hampton, VA
Deciding to walk into a church for the first time — or the first time in a long time — takes courage. You probably have questions. Will I know anyone? What do people wear? What do I do with my kids? Will someone pressure me to do something I'm not ready for?
We get it. And we want to answer every one of those questions before you ever pull into the parking lot.
Here's exactly what to expect your first Sunday at The Bridge Church in Hampton, VA.
When and Where
The Bridge Church meets every Sunday at 8:15 AM, 10:00 AM, and 11:45 AM at 35 Tide Mill Lane, Hampton, VA 23666.
All three services are identical in content, so pick whichever time works best for your schedule. The 10:00 AM and 11:45 AM services include BKids, our children's ministry for toddlers through 5th grade.
Parking and Arrival
Parking is free and easy to find on site. Plan to arrive a few minutes early on your first visit so you have time to get oriented without feeling rushed. You'll be greeted at the door by members of our team who are genuinely excited to welcome you.
What to Wear
Come as you are. Seriously. You'll see people in jeans, people dressed up, and everything in between. There is no dress code at The Bridge. What matters is that you showed up.
What the Service Is Like
Each service lasts about 90 minutes. You can expect:
Worship music that is upbeat and modern, led by our worship team. You're welcome to sing along, stand, or simply listen. There's no pressure.
A message from the Bible delivered by our pastor. Teaching at The Bridge is practical and grounded in Scripture. Whether you've been reading the Bible your whole life or have never opened one, you'll be able to follow along and take something home with you.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. People are friendly without being overwhelming. Nobody is going to put you on the spot, ask you to stand up and introduce yourself, or pressure you into anything.
What About My Kids?
BKids is our children's ministry for kids ages 1 through 5th grade, and it runs during the 10:00 AM and 11:45 AM services.
When you arrive, our team will help check your kids in and give you a pick-up tag. Hold onto it because our team will ask for it when you come to get them.
Each age group has its own environment:
- Toddlers (ages 1-2) experience worship songs and Bible stories in a fun, loving setting
- Preschool (ages 3-4) enjoy snacks, Bible stories, and group activities
- Elementary (K-5th grade) engage in a detailed curriculum, energized worship, and small group discussion
Safety is our top priority. Every BKids volunteer is background-checked and trained.
Will Anyone Try to Sell Me Something or Pressure Me?
No. Your first Sunday at The Bridge is simply an opportunity to experience the church and see if it feels like home. Nobody will ask you for money, pressure you to join, or follow up in a way that feels uncomfortable.
At the end of the service, we'll share information about next steps for anyone who is interested, but those are always optional and always at your own pace.
After the Service
Stick around after the service if you can. It's one of the best ways to meet people. Our team is always available to answer questions, show you around, or just have a conversation.
If you'd like to connect more intentionally, check out our Newcomers Connection — a casual gathering designed specifically for people who are new to The Bridge and want to learn more about who we are.
